Kinzler Close-Up: Isaac Gukeisen

octubre 12, 2024

October is Fire Prevention Month, a reminder of the importance of fire safety, community, and vigilance. For Isaac, a spray foam installer at Kinzler Construction Services since November 2021, service has taken on a new meaning. In addition to his work at Kinzler, where he’s gained experience in nearly every insulation department, Isaac decided to take on a different kind of challenge – one that could save lives. He is training to become a volunteer firefighter and EMT for the Hiawatha Fire Department.

“The inspiration for my decision came one day while watching a TV show about firefighting,” Isaac explained.

What began as a spark of curiosity quickly became a desire to help his community. “I decided to become a firefighter because I think it’s a good way to stay humble and a reminder that we are all human and should help people,” Isaac says.

His dedication to learning new skills at Kinzler translated well to this new endeavor as he follows in the footsteps of Kevin Kinzler, the founder of Kinzler Construction Services, who was also a firefighter. Three of Isaac‘s Cedar Rapids Kinzler coworkers also serve as volunteer firefighters – Lane Williams, Shae Caven, and Brent Rozanski. They all demonstrate a Servant Heart, a Kinzler core value that recognizes the commitment to helping others.

Isaac finds immense satisfaction in his journey, “What I enjoy most about becoming a volunteer firefighter is the sense of purpose and self-worth I receive. I could be doing anything with my time right now at this stage in my life, but I decided to volunteer and serve my community.”

Isaac‘s dedication is very clear. He volunteers long hours on weekends responding to emergencies. Then on Monday mornings he heads back to work at Kinzler. It’s a demanding schedule that demonstrates his commitment.

When asked for the best fire safety advice he could offer, Isaac replied, “Be aware of devices that supply heat via electricity and shut the door when you sleep which can slow the spread of fire and provide precious time to escape in the event of a fire.”

During Fire Prevention Month, let’s take a cue from Isaac—stay safe, stay aware, and find ways to give back to our communities.
