What was once Cedar Rapids, Iowa’s first Central Fire Station (built in 1917), turned Science Station, is now getting a remodel and Kinzler Construction Services is on the ground floor. The Cedar Rapids Gypsum Concrete Division worked with Aspect Architecture to come up with a solution to make this historical building ready for new tenants.
The problem is there was no uniformity in the sub floor. Gypsum concrete was a great option for leveling this floor. Gypsum concrete has a number of advantages including that it’s fire resistant and lightweight. Though it weighs less than the average square foot of regular concrete, it still offers the same compressive strength, and has the ability to be laid faster than regular poured concrete.
Gypsum concrete depths throughout this structure differed from 3/4″ all the way to 8”. When finished, the floor was completely level and smooth.
Kinzler Construction Services is your best choice for gypsum concrete installation. Learn more about gypsum concrete and see if it’s right for your next project at www.insulation.net/GypsumConcrete.
