The construction industry has the second-highest rate of suicide in the United States.
It’s a heartbreaking reality, one that rarely gets talked about, but affects so many of us.
These aren’t just statistics. They’re our coworkers. Our friends. Our family. People we work beside every day who may be fighting silent battles.
During Suicide Prevention Week (September 8–12), we’re reminded that it’s okay to not be okay, and it’s more than okay to ask for help.
This year, Construction Suicide Prevention Week asks us to “Build Community” and look out for each other the way we would on a job site. That means checking in. Having real conversations. Being present when someone seems off. You don’t have to be an expert. You just have to care.
On Monday, September 8 at 1:50 p.m. CT, we joined teams across the country in a moment of silence to remember those we’ve lost, and to commit to doing better for those still here.
Let’s break the silence together. Let’s make it known:
You are not alone.
If you or someone you know is struggling, help is out there.
